How Battlestar Galactica will end

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

I’ve kind of lost interest in Battlestar Galactica since the RTF found and abandoned Earth. As far as I’m concerned the show peaked at the end of season 3, with Kara’s rebirth, her discovery of Earth, and the emergence of the hidden Cylons. Not to mention the best version of “All Along the Watchtower” since Hendrix. How will it end? At this point, my money is on a somewhat obvious conclusion: The “Earth” that was discovered turns out to be “old Earth,” inhabited by Cylons, of whom the “final five” are the sole survivors. At the end of the series, the RTF and the Cylons settle on “new Earth,” and become our ancestors. Cue Patrick Macnee, and we’re outta here. A fairly obvious conclusion, and one that’s just as likely not to happen, but the alternative, of course, is that we’re the Cylons, and at some point in the near future, we nuke ourselves to oblivion, though not before dispatching the RTF, which is comprised of a cyber-race we built, known as humans, who are secretly overseen by the final five. Yeah, that could also work.

Update: I wasn’t too far off. I was right about the past, about us being descended from the RTF and Cylons and about the dual-Earth scenario. Sure, obvious stuff, but still…
